Top Biotech Stocks To Watch For 2019

Reata Pharmaceuticals (RETA) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company specializing in drugs that affect mitochondria-related diseases. Its lead candidate is for PAH (pulmonary arterial hypertension) resulting from connective tissue disease.

Reata came up in a screening I did of the new additions to the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index, which is used as a basis for the iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (IBB). If you want to pick individual stocks and try to beat the IBB, the understanding the component companies is a good place to start.

However, keep in mind that beating the IBB by investing in individual biotech stocks is not easy, even for experienced stock pickers. It takes a lot of time to research stocks. If I did not have the time, I would be happy just to own the IBB or SPDR S&P Biotech ETF (XBI), or both. For the complete list of adds, see Nasdaq Biotech Index: 54 to be added. I wrote about the first stock from my screen in Endocyte, Now Included In IBB, Has A Strong Clinical-Stage Asset.
